The whole idea of weddings have changed. Gone are the days when a tux was needed and a modest white dress. Now a days it can be a bit more laid back. Men can wear vests with slacks or have a bow tie on. Women can show their backs and have a strapless dresses.
It's changed and that allows a lot of possibilities and personality to show through the whole event.
