Choosing A Wedding Date

What day you choose to have your wedding is an oddly important aspect of your wedding. Different days or months have different meaning. What season it is can have an effect on what you have to wear. If you want to choose a popular month, you may have to book well in advance or find your dream day already taken. Luckily The Knot has a fairly simple guide to how to choose your wedding date.

How romantic would it be to marry on the date your eyes first met, on the date you officially became a couple, or on your grandparents' anniversary? Some cultures use traditional methods to choose a date -- Japanese families use the koyomi, an ancient astrological calendar, to pick the most propitious day, while ancient Greeks divined pig entrails! Shopping for Bridal Lingerie

One of the top three hardest thing about planning a wedding, after choosing a dress and a venue (choosing a good groom is a close 4th) is choosing a good set of lingerie. Sure, most of the people at the wedding will never see it, but it has to be comfortable, elegant and fit with your dress. Bare Necessities has a fairly in depth (and lengthy) article on choosing and buying the best bridal lingerie for you, which apparently starts before you've even chosen the dress:

The truly prepared bride-to-be will select her underpinnings before her first trip to the bridal boutique. While these wedding undergarments may not be the ones you'll be wearing down the aisle, you'll need something comfortable and flattering to wear when you try on dresses.

Corset and Wedding Gowns

One of the most important things about your wedding is that you look the best you can. And an important, but often unseen, aspect of that, is what you wear under your wedding gown. My Wedding Planner Tips has an interesting article addressing the possibility of having a corset under your wedding gown.

Every bride wishes to look radiant and beautiful on their wedding day. This includes having a wedding gown that flatters and enhances your figure. Most brides do not have perfect figures and despite going on diets and hitting the gym before the wedding, some brides still may have some issues with how their bodies look in their wedding gowns. Some advocate the use of corsets to smoothen out unwanted lumps and bumps and to achieve a streamlined figure.

Bella's Dress

Happy thanksgiving! In a follow up to my last post about the Twilight themed wedding Jezebel has an absolutely incredible looking replica of Bella's dress from Breaking Dawn. Of course you'll need to be a fairly devoted and wealthy fan of Twilight if you're buying this, since it's 800 dollars. For that much money, it better come with a vampire (or werewolf) groom on the side.

Breaking Dawn Wedding

After last week's geek inspired wedding, I figured the best thing I could do was balance it out with a female aimed theme wedding. In this case, a wedding shoot from Want That Wedding based on the wedding in the just released Breaking Dawn: Part One. The style and dedication put into this wedding shoot must be seen to be believed. And forgive me, but I think the guy is better looking than Robert Pattinson.

Superhero Weds Supervillainess

Geek culture based weddings are becoming more and more common, and while the most impressive I've seen remains the Australian Portal and Anime based wedding this wedding between a Superman based groom and a Harley Quinn based bride is an incredibly close second and would be a worthy goal for any geek bride or groom to aspire to. As Ana Aesthetic writes for Geeks Are Sexy:

Jonathon Carroll and his groomsmen were decked out in the finest Krypton robes this side of the yellow sun. According to Jessica, they had purchased the bodysuits from Rivers Edge Dancewear, and Jonathon took the time to make the robes himself. The iconic House of El “S” logo was produced by Wildwood Studios based on the symbol from the Superman Returns film.

Save On Your Big Day

The economy continues to be deep in recession, with no sign of relief. But you shouldn't let that get you down, and you certainly shouldn't let it affect your wedding day. As Ruth Lythe reports for The Guardian, there are many ways to have a beautiful wedding dress and still have enough left over to pay the caterer.
While the origins of Kate Middleton's wedding dress are shrouded in mystery, it's unlikely she bought it from a charity shop, Chinese factory outlet or bargain bucket sale.

Yet, according to experts, increasing numbers are spurning the traditional expensive dress. Instead, brides are turning to cut-price alternatives or DIY in the quest for a perfect look for their big day.

The Best Bridal Shoes

There are dozens, perhaps hundreds, of different kinds of bridal shoes available, designed for everything from practicality to decoration. Choosing the right pair can be the difference between a confident walk or a trip down the aisle, and this article can be the first step down that road. By Pounima Londhe for Smart Bananas.
1) Choose Your Shoe Fabric

While most bridal shoes are made from cloth (usually white satin or silk that can be dyed to match their gowns), there isn’t any rule that says brides have to wear cloth shoes. You can also wear leather, as long as it fits with the look of your gown.

3 Tips for Bridal Lingerie

Your lingerie is the foundation of your entire outfit. The shaping and support it provides you with could be a huge boost to your image and confidence, as long as it fits you just right. Because of this, you'll definitely want to take your time choosing the perfect lingerie for that special day (and night). Treacle gives 3 Tips on how to go about finding the best lingerie for you on your wedding!
"1) While your wedding day is a special day, it is your still your day. Bridal lingerie should be a reflection of your personal style. Considering that you’ll be on your feet and around cameras all day (not to mention a constant influx of family, friends, and loved ones), it’s absolutely essential that you choose lingerie you’re comfortable in.  If you’re not the kind of lady who likes boning and corsets, a basque or merrywidow may not be the best undergarment for you.  If you never wear thongs, then please don’t experiment with them on your wedding day.  Whatever lingerie you wear needs to work for you."

Pre-Wedding Beauty Treatment Mistakes

Some treatments could end up having some devastatingly unflattering effects, whether it's from bad timing or imperfect practice. Here are a few treatments to avoid doing right before your wedding.
"In the quest to look plucked, polished, and perfect, many brides will go to extremes. (I have a friend who had the veins in her legs removed before her big day!) Maybe you wouldn't go that far, but there are plenty of common beauty treatments you should avoid before your bridal debut. Choosing Undergarments For Your Wedding

Your wedding dress should fit you perfectly, making you look dazzling without sacrificing comfort. Weddings are active events for a bride, including dancing and plenty of social interactions. Considering the fact that you’ll be doing a fair amount of moving, your dress should be snug and easy to maneuver in throughout the entire ceremony. For comfort and appearance, what you wear under your dress could be just as important as the dress itself. To ensure that the dress fits as it should, a bride has about three dress fittings on average, making alterations to the dress as they’re needed. Since your undergarments have a significant effect on how your dress will fit you, it’s important to decide on what you’re going to wear underneath your dress soon after you’ve chosen it and to and bring them with you to each of your dress fittings. When choosing your undergarments, keep the design of your dress in mind. You want to be sure that the straps won’t show and that the design of the bra agrees with your dress and skin. Wearing underwear that’s visible through your dress could look sloppy, taking away from your impact and elegance.
Since your choice in undergarments has a tremendous bearing on how your dress fits you, it should support your figure in a way that makes you both look and feel incredible. Shapewear and body slimmers are commonly worn underneath wedding dresses because of their ability accentuate your curves and smooth out your shape without discomfort. Any problematic areas that your dress may cling to could be supported by your shapewear, ensuring that it stays firm and under control throughout the day. There is shapewear designed for all sorts of body types, so it shouldn’t be difficult to find something that fulfills your purpose for wearing it. Browse the various types available and select based on your preference, body type, dress color (it should match), and what you’re aiming to do with your figure. Be sure to wear your shapewear in the correct size! If you’re feeling vexed by the discomfort of constraining undergarments, it’ll show in your demeanor and expression. It’s crucial that you feel as good as you look for your wedding, so wear the right size so it fits comfortably and is adequately supportive.
